Vernonia lettermannii 'Iron Butterfly'
Threadleaf Ironweed
An arboretum favorite! This ironweed forms vigorous clumps of narrow stems with fine, feathery foliage that are topped by clusters of fluffy, jewel-tone purple blooms in late summer and early fall. Unlike other ironweeds that can reach heights of 8', this variety maintains its neat appearance without the need for staking. The blooms are loved by butterflies and provide a great source of late season nectar.
