Packera aurea
Golden Groundsel
This member of the daisy family is native to eastern North America. Its dark green leaves grow close to the ground. Then, in April, flower stalks rise as much as 2.5 feet above the leaves, displaying clusters of yellow daisy-like flowers. After the flowers have gone to seed, you can cut down the stalks, but if you leave them, the birds will be grateful for the seeds.
