Asarum canadense
Canadian Wild Ginger
This low-growing perennial makes a good ground cover or edging at the front of a garden. Its maroon flowers are small and very low to the ground, so this is a plant you grow for its deep green, glossy foliage. Native to Canada and the northeastern United States, this plant is deer-resistant. This is not related to culinary ginger, but gets its name from a slight gingery smell.
