Liatris microcephala
Blazing Star
This small, clumping perennial is native to the southern Appalachian Mountains. Spikes of rose-purple flowers attract butterflies, and the seeds that form after the flowers feed small birds. The flowers are good for cutting and make an interesting accent in an arrangement of summer flowers.
